NEW DELHI – Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd needs to expedite the rollout of 4G network, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said today. "It is very important and imperative that BSNL succeeds as a player (in the telecom market)."

While all the other telecom companies have rolled out 5G network, the public sector telecom player is yet to roll out even a 4G network. BSNL must ensure that it provides maximum bandwidth capability to its 8% costumer share, Scindia said at the 11th Annual General Forum of Public Affairs Forum of India.

After the rollout of the 4G network, BSNL should focus on retaining its customers and the government is also working to support the company, Scindia said. "Building out a CRM (customer relationship management) model that will engage with customers on a real-time basis to resolve their problem, something very such akin to what I did with AirSewa in civil aviation."

Scindia had told Parliament earlier this year that BSNL is expected to complete rolling out its 4G services by June 2025. The government in 2023 had approved the allotment of 4G/5G spectrum to BSNL with an outlay of around 890 bln rupees.

The communications minister today said that about 25,000 villages in the country lack telecom connectivity, and the government aims to have telecom connectivity in all these villages by mid 2025. End
