Andhra Pradesh CM says to soon unveil integrated clean energy policy

HYDERABAD – Andhra Pradesh is planning to soon announce an integrated clean energy policy covering all types of renewable and clean energy segments to attract more investments into the sector, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said today. Addressing a session at RE-Invest 2024 summit at Gandhinagar in Gujarat, Naidu said the new policy framework will improve investor confidence.

He said Andhra Pradesh is committed to add 72.60 GW of new renewable energy capacity by 2030 aligning India's goal of achieving 500 GW by that time. The new policy will help to create jobs, protect the environment, and make Andhra Pradesh a leader in green energy.

Naidu highlighted the state's coastline, strong industrial base, transport links, and vast potential in solar, wind, pumped storage, and green hydrogen. He invited global investors to take advantage of the state's investor-friendly policies, which include tax breaks, subsidies, and easy regulations, along with a skilled workforce.

Out of the total target capacity in renewables segment, 40 GW will be solar energy, 20 GW wind energy, 12 GW pumped storage, 1 mtpa green hydrogen and derivatives, 2,500 kilo ltr per day of biofuels, and 500 public charging stations for electric vehicles.

Andhra Pradesh currently has 4,335.28 MW of solar energy capacity, 4,083.57 MW of wind power, 106 MW small hydro, 443 MW bio energy, and 36 MW waste to energy capacity. Besides that, around 4,000 MW of solar power parks were established in Ananthapuram, Kurnool and Kadapa districts. Another 2,700 MW of solar power generation capacity is coming up in Prakasam district and Sri Satya Sai district.

Naidu said his government is also planning to set up a clean energy university to enhance research and development and create a talent pool for the sector. End
