MUMBAI – Prices of maize in Purnea, Bihar rose today as the market did not see any arrivals, a local trader said. Pprices of mill quality wheat were steady in the key markets of Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Kota in Rajasthan, traders said.
* MAIZE prices surged in Purnea due to no arrivals in the market, as farmers have exhausted their stocks, said Kanhaiya Rastogi, a local trader. Supply is expected to improve with the arrival of the new crop in the last week of March.
* Prices of maize have been steady in Purnea since the beginning of this week.
* In Davanagere, Karnataka, maize prices were flat and arrivals were pegged at 1,000 bags, up 500 bags from the previous day, said local trader Shiva Kumar.
* Prices of WHEAT in the key markets of Indore were unchanged, and arrivals were estimated at 10,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), said local traders. In Indore, arrivals are likely to rise further after the festival of Holi, said trader Jitendra Panwar.
* Wheat prices were flat in Kota, and arrivals increased to 3,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 2,000 bags the previous day, said local trader Aniket Mehta.
* The new crop of wheat has started arriving in the markets of Kota from Monday. Today, arrivals of the fresh crop were at 1,000 bags, compared with 150 bags of Wednesday.
* Prices of fine rice in Karanjiya, Odisha, were unavailable today.
