NEW DELHI – Wheat prices rose today in Kota, Rajasthan, while prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were unavailable due to a local holiday. On the other hand, price of maize rose in Davanagere, traders said.

* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT in Kota, a key market in Rajasthan, rose today due to high demand from local buyers, said Chander Khandelwal, a trader.

* Arrivals were pegged steady at 3,500 bags (1 bag = 100 kg). Auctions were not held on Tuesday as the key wholesale market remained closed on account of Maha Shivratri, traders said.

* Together, Russia and Ukraine export more than a quarter of wheat to the world. Wheat would become more expensive if supplies were to be disrupted.

* The prices of mill-quality wheat in Indore were unavailable because key wholesale markets were shut on account of Amavasya, traders said. The market will resume trade from Thursday.

* Price of MAIZE in Davanagere, a major market in Karnataka, rose today due to high demand from stockists and lower arrivals, said Chandrasekhar Babu, a local trader.

* Arrivals were pegged at 800 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), down 500 bags from the previous day of trade. Markets were shut and auctions were not held on Tuesday on account of Maha Shivratri, traders said.

* A drop in arrivals in Tamil Nadu raised demand for the commodity in Davanagere, which also supported prices, traders said.

* Maize prices in Purnea, Bihar, remained flat today due to steady demand and supply, said local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi. Arrivals were pegged steady at 800 bags.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
