MUMBAI – Prices of mill-quality wheat rose slightly today in Kota, Rajasthan, because of increased demand for festivals.

In Kota, prices of mill-quality WHEAT were up 25 rupees at 2,500-2,525 rupees per 100 kg, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. Arrivals of the staple grain were pegged at 8,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 1,000 bags from Friday, he said.

Mehta expects prices to rise further in the coming days because of festival demand.

MAIZE prices were unavailable as markets in Purnea, Bihar, have been closed for the past two days for Navratri festival and will open only on Thursday, local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi said.

As on Sep 29, maize acreage in India was 8.6 mln ha, up 3.2% from 8.3 mln ha in the corresponding period last year, agriculture ministry data showed.  End
