MUMBAI – Prices of mill-quality wheat rose in Kota, Rajasthan and maize remained flat in the benchmark market of Davanagere, Karnataka, traders said.

WHEAT prices in Rajasthan rose by 50 rupees to 2,500 rupees per 100 kg from the previous day. Arrivals fell by 1,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg) to 2,000 bags due to rainfall, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader in Rajasthan. The India Meteorological Department reported hailstorms at isolated places over East Rajasthan in the last 24 hours.

MAIZE prices in Davanagere remained flat at 2,000-2,300 rupees per 100 kg, though arrivals fell by 2,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg) to 3,000 bags, local trader Shiva Kumar said.

"The weather is unfavourable because of which demand for poor-quality maize fell and arrivals also reduced", he said.

The daily average consumer wholesale price for RICE fell by 49.82 rupees today to 3,794.1 rupees per 100 kg from the previous day, according to the Department of Consumer Affairs.
