MUMBAI – Prices of mill-quality wheat and maize fell today in the wholesale markets of Kota, Rajasthan, and Davanagere, Karnataka, respectively, said traders.
In Kota, prices of WHEAT fell by 25 rupees to 2,550 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 10,000 bags, up 3,000 bags from the previous working day, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. Prices fell due to increased arrivals in the domestic market.
MAIZE prices in Davanagere fell 20 rupees to 2,200-2,380 per 100 kg today. Arrivals were at 3,000 bags, up 2,700 bags from the previous day, said Shiva Kumar, a local maize trader.
Arrivals rose as markets reopened after four days of holiday. In the coming days, prices might increase as demand is likely to be firm, Kumar added.
Due to inadequate rainfall in 2023, there are chances that the second crop of maize is likely to be affected, Kumar said. In that case, arrivals will reduce and prices are likely to increase, he said.
In the markets of Purnea, Bihar, maize prices remained unchanged at 2,370-2,475 rupees per 100 kg. Arrivals also remained unchanged at 1,000 bags, said Kanhaiya Rastogi, a local trader.
Prices are likely to increase when new crops arrive, Rastogi added.
