NEW DELHI - Prices of maize rose in Purnea, Bihar, due to strong demand for good quality crop, but prices in Davanagere, Karnataka, were unchanged. Wheat prices fell slightly today in key wholesale markets of Indore due to lower demand, traders said.

* Prices of MAIZE rose sharply in Purnea due to higher demand in spot markets for the new crop of good quality, said local trader Kanhaiya Rastogi.

* In Bihar, the fresh crop is currently being sold at 2,400-2,500 rupees per 100 kg, and new crop arrivals were pegged at 1,500 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), traders said.

* However, a rise in arrivals of the new crop is likely to weigh on prices in the coming days, they said.

* Prices of maize were flat in Davanagere due to steady demand and arrivals, said Chandrasekhar Babu, a local trader.

* In Davanagere, arrivals were pegged at 400 bags, unchanged from Friday.

* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT fell marginally today in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, due to lower demand from domestic bulk buyers. Arrivals remained at 15,000 bags, said N.K. Agarwal, a local trader.

* Mill-quality wheat prices were flat in Kota, Rajasthan, due to thin trade, said Chander Khandelwal, a local trader.

* Arrivals were pegged at 50,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 20,000 from Friday.

* Prices are likely to fall further over the next few days as arrivals are expected to increase, traders said.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
