NEW DELHI – Prices of wheat remained steady today across key markets in the country, while those of maize rose in Davanagere on the back of improved demand, traders said.

* Prices of MAIZE rose in Davanagere, a key market in Karnataka, due to an improvement in bulk demand amid steady supply. Arrivals were steady at 7,000 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), a Davanagere-based trader said.

* Arrivals in Davanagere have decreased over the past few days as farmers are holding on to their stocks in anticipation of rise in prices in the near future, a local trader said.

* Prices of maize in Purnea, Bihar, were flat despite fall in arrivals, said Ravi, owner of Purnea-based R.K. Trading. Arrivals were pegged at 1,000 bags, compared with 1,500 bags on Monday.

* Supply of the coarse grain in Bihar may decline further in the coming days as it is a lean season and fresh crop will hit markets only in the first week of April.

* Prices of WHEAT in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were flat as demand and arrivals remained steady. Arrivals were pegged at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), unchanged from Monday, said N.K. Agarwal, a local trader.

* Demand from bulk buyers has declined as they are waiting for the arrival of new crop, which will hit the market in March, local trader N.K. Agarwal said.

* Prices of wheat in Kota, a key market in Rajasthan, remained unchanged because of parity between demand and supply. Arrivals were pegged at 3,000 bags, steady as compared with Monday, Kota-based trader Chander Khandelwal said.

* Prices of BASMATI 1121 PADDY and BAJRA were largely unchanged across markets.
