MUMBAI - Anurag Mittal, president and head, fixed income, UTI Asset Management Co., said the following on the Reserve Bank of India's fourth bi-monthly monetary policy statement for the financial year 2026-27 (Apr-Mar) detailed Wednesday:
The 25 bp (basis-point) hike to 5.50% and the shift to a "calibrated tightening" stance make for a balanced policy, considerably milder than a "withdrawal of accommodation". The RBI is normalising rates to keep real rates positive rather than materially tightening financial conditions, and with close to 100 bps of hikes already priced in, most of the adjustment in yields is behind us. Investors should move into 2– to 4-year and moderate duration funds like short term or corporate bond funds where current yields are highly attractive between 7.8-8.0% without meaningful duration risk.
