NEW DELHI - Brajesh Kumar Singh, managing director and chief executive officer, Canara Bank, said the following on the Reserve Bank of India's fourth bi-monthly monetary policy statement for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar) detailed Wednesday:

We welcome the RBI's calibrated policy response, with the 25 basis points repo rate hike to 5.50%, which comes amid heightened inflationary pressures arising from the ongoing war in West Asia. This move is aimed at anchoring inflation expectations while maintaining macroeconomic stability. Although the increase in the repo rate will play some part in affecting funding costs and interest rates, the upward revision of FY27 real GDP growth to 7.1% reflects good growth momentum and healthy credit demand, making for a conducive environment for the banking system. Canara Bank is committed to providing timely and cost-effective credit support to households, MSMEs, and other enterprises as they continue to grow in this phase.  End
