NEW DELHI – Jaguar Land Rover, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., Wednesday launched its new electric vehicle Jaguar Type 01 in New York. The Type 01 will be the first model built on the company's Jaguar Electric Architecture, it said in a press release. Customers can order the vehicle in early 2027, it added.
On the nomenclature of its new model, JLR said "Type" references to iconic predecessors such as the C-Type, E-Type, or XJS, among others. The "0" in the name is used to signify zero tailpipe emissions, and the "1" marks the first model of a new generation of vehicles in the company's portfolio.
JLR will begin the production of the Jaguar Type 01 in 2027 at its Solihull plant in the UK. The electric drive units and battery packs will be made in Wolverhampton. The body panels will be manufactured in Halewood, England, the carmaker said. The new car is segmented differently, alongside the Range Rover, Defender and Discovery brands of JLR, enabling it to cater for a new segment of the luxury car market, the company said.
Under the hood, the car will have tri-motor technology with up to 1,030 horsepower and 1,365 Newton-metres of torque, enabling it to hit 0-62 miles per hour (or 0-100 kilometre per hour) in 3.2 seconds, the company claimed. It will also feature an 850-volt electrical power delivery architecture giving a 400-mile range. The car will be capable of charging up to 200 miles of range (or over 300 kilometres) in 13 minutes by using 350-kilowatt charging, the company said.
The Type 01 will have a 24-inch, single glass, organic light-emitting diode screen infotainment system with controls. It will also have an additional seven-inch display between the driver and front passenger. For music and sound, it will feature a full-width, full-range, panoramic soundbar, and sensory audio seats.
JLR is targeting double-digit growth over the next five years, driven by targeting different customer segments, and keeping a mix of internal combustion engine, hybrid and electric-powered options across brands, with Jaguar as uniquely all-electric. The company is also focusing on North America as a priority growth market, it said in the press release.
"The unveiling of Type 01 marks the beginning of an exciting new era for Jaguar. Designed, engineered and built in the UK, Jaguar...is a vital part of JLR's growth story, strengthening our House of Brands strategy and supporting long-term investment in British innovation, manufacturing and skills," PB Balaji, chief executive officer of JLR, said.
Tata Motor Passenger Vehicles had reported consolidated net profit of INR 7.75 billion on revenues of INR 957.99 billion for the June quarter. At 1127 IST, its shares traded 0.7% lower than Tuesday at INR 283.65 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. End
