NEW DELHI – The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Tuesday approved setting up of an Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority to improve research, planning, appraisal, monitoring and impact assessment in transportation and logistics. The authority will monitor implementation of transport and infrastructure projects above INR 5 billion and provide a coordinated mechanism for issue resolution, the government said in a release. The authority will also undertake post-implementation impact assessment of these projects.
The authority is made to address the long-standing challenges arising from fragmented planning and implementation across multiple transport-related ministries and agencies, the government said. The authority is expected to enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and effectiveness of transport infrastructure development in India.
The Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority will function as the apex body to overview policy support and data analytics as well. It will prepare a comprehensive National Transport Master Plan with a planning horizon of 10 years or more, covering roads, railways, ports and shipping, civil aviation, inland waterways, coastal shipping, urban mobility, and logistics, the release said.
It will also build a unified transport data repository by obtaining relevant transport and logistics datasets from multiple sources, including GSTN e-way bill, FASTag, Vahan, Global Positioning System-based systems, urban traffic management systems and other relevant databases, the release added.
