MUMBAI – The Navi Mumbai International Airport, operated by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., Monday said it is expanding public transport and ground mobility network ahead of the winter schedule, which runs between the end of October and end of March. The expansion comes amid widespread complaints on social media platforms about poor connectivity of the newly inaugurated airport to the main city.
As part of this drive, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corp. will start electric bus services from Wednesday. Customers will be charged INR 450 to Pune from the airport, INR 210 to Borivali, and INR 170 to Dadar East. Taxi Services under state-run Bharat Taxi mobility platform will start its operations with a fleet of up to 40 vehicles from Oct. 10 while prepaid taxi and autorickshaw services will also be introduced. Private operators Cityflo and Aarya, and Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking-run Chalo will offer inter-airport shuttle connecting the airport in Navi Mumbai to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Adani Airport Holdings, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd., also operates the Mumbai International Airport. Saturday, the company had said it would begin the redevelopment of the north section of Terminal 1B, located in Santacruz because of safety-related concerns. The company said it provided airlines with the option to relocate their operations to the airport in Navi Mumbai temporarily.
This decision drew widespread flak, especially because of poor connectivity of the new airport, which started commercial flight operations only in December. The redevelopment of Terminal 1 of the Mumbai International Airport will begin from January 2027. This enhancement will increase the capacity of the terminal to 20 million passengers per year from 15 million passengers currently. End
