MUMBAI – Axis Bank Ltd.'s gross advances rose 22.7% on year to INR 13.85 trillion as of Sept. 30, according to provisional business figures released by the bank Monday. Gross advances increased 8.8% sequentially from INR 12.73 trillion as of Jun. 30, the bank said in a regulatory filing.

Total deposits rose 20.7% on year to INR 14.52 trillion as of Sept. 30, from INR 12.04 trillion a year ago. Deposits were up 5.8% sequentially from INR 13.73 trillion. Within deposits, current account and savings account deposits increased 10.6% on year to INR 5.30 trillion, while term deposits grew 27.3% to INR 9.23 trillion.

Axis Bank said it mobilised $10.62 billion in foreign currency non-resident (bank) deposits under the Reserve Bank of India's swap facility. A portion of these flows was used to reduce non-retail term deposits, which declined 8.6% sequentially, the bank said.

Loans extended by the bank's international branches to customers as a leveraging facility for placing these FCNR(B) deposits stood at $4.57 billion. Excluding these loans, gross advances would have grown 18.8% on year and 5.3% sequentially, while total deposits would have grown 17.0% on year and 2.6% sequentially.

The bank also said standby letters of credit issued in favour of other banks against loans backed by FCNR(B) deposits aggregated $4.69 billion. For the June quarter, the private-sector lender's net profit rose 22.5% on year to INR 71.14 billion. Monday, shares of the bank closed at INR 1,222.20, up 0.4% from Thursday.  End
