MUMBAI – Under the influence of a fresh western disturbance, light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is expected over parts of the Western Himalayas from Tuesday to Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. This weather system is also expected to cause a wet spell with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of northwest India till Saturday, the weather department said.

The monsoon withdrew from the remaining parts of north India, entire Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, and some parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra Saturday. The current of withdrawal has remained in the same position. The line of retreat currently passes through Supaul in Bihar, Ranchi in Jharkhand, Raipur in Chhattisgarh, and Brahmapuri, Parbhani, Baramati, and Harnai in Maharashtra.

A trough runs from northwest Uttar Pradesh to east Bangladesh, while another trough runs from north-central Bihar to north Odisha. The presence of these weather systems is expected to cause thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of east India till Friday, while a wet spell could continue till Sunday, the weather bureau said. Moderate to severe lightning is expected over Gangetic West Bengal till Thursday, the bureau said.

These weather systems are also expected to cause thunderstorms and lightning over parts of Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh from Tuesday to Friday and over Vidarbha on Tuesday and Wednesday. Light to moderate showers are expected over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha from Tuesday to Sunday.

In northeast India, light to moderate showers are forecast over multiple parts till Sunday, the weather department said. In west India, thunderstorms and lightning are expected over parts of Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra till Tuesday, while a wet spell is likely over the same regions till Wednesday.

Currently, a cyclonic circulation lies over north interior Karnataka. A trough runs from the Comorin Area to the cyclonic circulation over north interior Karnataka, across Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka. Under the influence of these weather systems, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till Tuesday, Kerala till Tuesday and on Friday and Saturday, and over south interior Karnataka on Tuesday, the weather department said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over many parts of south peninsular India till Friday. A wet spell is expected to continue over the region till Sunday. Strong surface winds are expected over parts of Andhra Pradesh till Thursday, the department said.  End
