NEW DELHI – The rise in HDFC Bank's total deposits as of Sept. 30 outpaced the growth in advances during the same period, provisional data released by the bank Sunday showed. The private sector bank's deposits grew 18.8% on year to INR 33.28 trillion as of Sept. 30, while advances grew 16.3% to INR 32.20 trillion.

According to the latest data from the Reserve Bank of India, total loans of scheduled commercial banks in India were up 18.1% as on Sept. 15, while deposits grew 17.3% on year. The RBI's special swap window boosted deposit growth by attracting foreign capital, where the central bank bore the hedging cost of three-to-five year foreign-currency non-resident (bank) deposits. The FCNR(B) inflow under the scheme totalled $133 billion between Jun. 8 and Aug. 31.

HDFC Bank, India's largest private sector bank, mobilised FCNR deposits worth $11.5 billion as of Aug. 31.

For the June quarter, the bank had reported a net profit of INR 190.60 billion on a total income of INR 921.84 billion. At 1045 IST, shares of the bank traded at INR 712.60 on the National Stock Exchange, down 1.2% from its previous close.  End
