NEW DELHI – The government has reduced the base import price of gold by $34 to $1,339 per 10 grams, and silver by $63 to $1,965 per kg, according to a notification from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs Wednesday. The revised rates came into effect Thursday.
The customs department had previously revised the base import price for both precious metals on Sept. 15. Typically, the government revises base import prices of gold and silver every fortnight. It makes more frequent changes when prices are volatile. India is one of the world's largest importers of silver and gold. End
