NEW DELHI – The Delhi High Court Monday sought the government's response on a public interest litigation seeking an audit of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp. Ltd. passenger reservation system. The petitioner, advocate Uttam Kumar, has sought an independent and technically competent audit of IRCTC's online railway ticket booking platform, alleging repeated technical failure and deduction of payment without generation of tickets. The court will hear the case on Oct. 7.

Passengers have reported difficulties, including failure to access the booking system, login and authentication problems, said the petitioner. There were instances when a booking session was terminated, transaction failed and passengers were unable to complete reservation, said the petitioner. Kumar has sought that the train ticket reservation system operate in a fair, transparent, reliable, accessible and non-discriminatory manner.

The petitioner has sought examination of safeguards against bots, automated scripts, bulk-booking tools, unauthorised software and multiple account manipulation. There should be an immediate, clear and time-bound mechanism for determining transaction status and refund of failed payments, said the petitioner.

Further, the petitioner has sought transparency in reservation against cancellation and waitlist allocation. There should be a fair and non-discriminatory access to available railway accommodation and prevention of unfair advantage arising from agents and bots, said the petitioner.

On Wednesday, shares of IRCTC Ltd. ended 0.6% higher at INR 455.40 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
