MUMBAI – Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.'s Japanese parent, Suzuki Motor Corp., on Friday outlined key plans as part of its technology strategy for the next decade to minimise energy consumption and maximise essential value. The company intends to do this in part by accelerating vehicle development and production. The company plans to develop new technologies, including a new hybrid system, direct-injection turbo engines, and others.
In its bid to respond flexibly to situations such as rising raw material and energy costs, the company wants to provide its customers 'Just-Right' products. The company said these products will provide "truly necessary value" to its customers. The company plans to accelerate its multi-pathway approach in different local markets, including India, based on their needs and readiness.
To support this aim, Suzuki Motor will cut new-vehicle development lead time by half. It will do so by improving development efficiency by 30% and manufacturing efficiency by 50%.
The company has already set a target of achieving an annual production capacity of around 4 million units by 2029-30 (Apr-Mar). The company wants to strengthen India as a manufacturing and export hub for selling products worldwide.
Suzuki Motor plans to develop a range extender for compact cars under 'REEV Light'. "For compact cars, we are preparing a series HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) that generates electricity from fuel and drives on the motor, and we will further evolve this series HEV by adding external charging capability and a right-sized battery to create a light range extender," the company said.
Additionally, Suzuki Motor said it has a clear path to cutting its car weight by 100 kilograms by 2030. It is studying plans to cut weight by up to 120 kilograms in the future. "The weight reduction Suzuki pursues is not only about using less energy while driving; it is an effort to use less steel, aluminium, resin, and battery material in the vehicle itself, making effective use of limited resources," the company said.
For the quarter ended June, Maruti Suzuki had reported a net profit of INR 33.52 billion and total revenue of INR 524.56 billion. Friday, its shares ended 0.6% higher at INR 12,065 on the National Stock Exchange.
