--SEBI eases norms for call record maintenance by research entities
MUMBAI – The Securities and Exchange Board of India on Thursday relaxed the requirement for maintaining call recordings of communications with institutional clients of research analysts and research entities. "Institutional clients are generally sophisticated entities with adequate knowledge to evaluate investment opportunities with risks involved and to undertake due diligence before making investments basis research reports," SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey told reporters in a press conference.
"Compared to other investors, institutional investors are likely to be aware about their legal rights and regulatory mechanisms available to protect their right," Pandey said. SEBI said this move of amending the SEBI (Research Analyst) Regulations, 2014, will facilitate ease of doing business and reduce compliance obligations for research analysts and research entities. The regulator had issued a public consultation paper on the same on May 18. End
