NEW DELHI – The United Forum of Bank Unions Wednesday said there was no positive outcome from the meeting with Indian Banks' Association and the Department of Financial Services on its demand for the introduction of five-day banking. Therefore, the unions of public sector banks, supported by regional rural banks, will go ahead with the proposed three-day strike from Sept. 28-30.
United Forum of Bank Unions has already served strike notice, the Union said in a circular. "All employees and officers who are members of the Union can join the strike irrespective of cadre or designation," it added.
Earlier in the day, the government said that it has instructed public sector banks to stay open on Sunday in view of the proposed three-day strike. If the banks get the Reserve Bank of India's approval to officially keep the branches open on Saturday and/or Sunday, employees and officers can attend office, the Union said in the circular. End
