--Finance ministry to hold pre-FY28 Budget meetings from Oct 12 to Nov 13
NEW DELHI – The finance ministry Wednesday issued a circular on the schedule of preparatory meetings for formulating the Budget for the next financial year starting Apr. 1. Top finance ministry officials will hold meetings with officials of other departments and ministries from Oct. 12 to Nov. 13. At these meetings, officials will finalise provisional estimates for Budget 2027-28 (Apr-Mar) and revised estimates for FY27.
The government typically presents the Budget on Feb. 1. Expenditure Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam will spearhead the pre-Budget meetings.
The circular sets a timeline for departments and ministries to submit revised estimates for the current financial year, and Budget estimates for the next year.
For FY27, the Union Budget had pegged the fiscal deficit at 4.3% of GDP, or INR 16.96 trillion. The finance ministry has repeatedly said that it will continue on the path of fiscal consolidation. The FY28 Budget is crucial, as it comes against a backdrop of increased uncertainties related to the West Asia war and global trade. End
