NEW DELHI – A cyclonic circulation lying over the Bay of Bengal is likely to reach the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha Wednesday morning, causing extremely heavy rainfall over coastal Andhra Pradesh from Wednesday to Thursday, and over Odisha and Chhattisgarh Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said. Meanwhile, an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over the Arabian Sea is likely to cause extremely heavy rains over coastal Karnataka Thursday. The weather department has issued red alerts for extremely heavy rains over these areas.
Updating the progress of the southwest monsoon withdrawal, the department said conditions are favourable for the monsoon current to further withdraw from some more parts of Rajasthan and most of northwest India, including parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and west Uttar Pradesh during the next two-three days. Meanwhile, the monsoon current will withdraw from the remaining parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi during the same period.
On Saturday, the weather department had said the southwest monsoon withdrawal started from some parts of west Rajasthan on Sept. 19, against the normal date of Sept. 17.
In northwest India, the weather department expects heavy rainfall over parts of Uttar Pradesh from Friday to Sunday, while very heavy rains are expected over Uttarakhand during the weekend. In central India, very heavy rains are expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh Friday and Saturday, while intermittent rains are expected in Chhattisgarh till Saturday.
Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation and other weather systems, most of east India is expected to receive heavy rainfall till Sunday. Meanwhile, very heavy rains are expected over parts of West Bengal and Jharkhand on Thursday, Bihar from Thursday to Friday, and Odisha intermittently till Friday.
In West India, central Maharashtra is expected to receive very heavy rains till Wednesday. In south India, parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are likely to receive very heavy rains intermittently till Friday, the weather department said. End
