NEW DELHI – The second day of SEMICON India 2026 saw announcements of 18 memorandums of understanding, including several from Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd. and L&T Semiconductor Technologies Ltd. The Tata-group company announced partnerships with L&T Semiconductor Technologies Ltd., INOX Air Products Ltd., Japan's Sumitomo Chemical Corp. Ltd., Enomoto Co., Ltd., integrated engineering solutions provider Kelington Engineering Pte Ltd., and the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology.
Under one of the partnerships, Sumitomo Chemical will supply semiconductor materials, including photoresists, functional chemicals, and high-purity chemicals to Tata Electronics' upcoming fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat. Tata Electronics will, in turn, support Sumitomo Chemical in exploring the manufacturing of semiconductor materials and high-purity chemicals in India. Under the partnership with precision semiconductor component manufacturer Enomoto, the two companies will assess opportunities for technology transfer, engineering collaboration, and capability development. Enomoto will leverage its research and development capabilities, technical know-how, and next-generation solutions to accelerate semiconductor packaging readiness for Tata Electronics' Jagiroad facility in Assam.
L&T Semiconductor Technologies announced pacts with Newen Systems Pvt. Ltd., Capital Power Systems Ltd., Fimer India Pvt. Ltd., and Virtual Forest Pvt. Ltd. Among others, Hindalco Industries Ltd. will collaborate with Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology for indigenous development of critical materials for the semiconductor industry.
"There are many more agreements which are happening in the business meetings," Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a media briefing on the sidelines of the three-day event. He added that the roundtable discussions with various countries have also elicited an encouraging response. "The country roundtables are basically showing that the companies from those countries can expand their work. The governments are supporting that and looks like it's going to be a very good journey ahead. We have inputs on multiple points and we will be working on those inputs."
As many as 11 memorandums of understanding were announced on Thursday.
Answering a question on the ecological impact of water-intensive industries such as semiconductor manufacturing and data centres, Vaishnaw said, "From the government policy point of view, we are pushing the data centres and nudging them and encouraging them as well as mandating them to use least amount of water as their footprint. In case of semiconductor industry, again, similar recycling methods, for example, huge amount of recycling of the water is going to happen. That is the way the entire plant is being designed."
According to Vaishnaw, the second edition of the India Semiconductor Mission will not only focus on chip design but also system design. One focus area of Semicon 2.0 includes upgrading course curriculum and training 100,000 technicians through partnership with industry and institutes. End
