NEW DELHI – Southern parts of India will likely see heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds till Thursday under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over interior Tamil Nadu and its neighbouring areas, the India Meteorological Department said.

Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Kerala till Sunday and parts of Tamil Nadu till Tuesday, the IMD said.

Parts of Karnataka are likely to receive heavy rainfall intermittently till Thursday, while coastal Andhra Pradesh may receive heavy rains till Sunday. Rayalaseema is likely to get heavy rains on Saturday, and Telangana from Friday to Thursday.

IMD said the conditions are becoming favourable for the southwest monsoon to withdraw from parts of west Rajasthan on Saturday. As a result, east Rajasthan may also see heavy rainfall on Saturday.

A trough running from Marathwada to the southeast Arabian Sea may bring heavy rainfall over the Konkan and Goa region, along with central Maharashtra, the weather bureau said. In the western region, central Maharashtra may receive heavy rains intermittently till Tuesday, while Konkan and Goa regions may receive heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday. In central India, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, and over Chhattisgarh from Tuesday to Thursday.

In the east, very heavy rainfall is likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands until Saturday, with heavy rainfall on Sunday. There may be intermittent heavy rainfall over Odisha till Tuesday, with very heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will likely receive heavy rains on Sunday and Thursday, while Gangetic West Bengal may receive heavy rains on Wednesday and Thursday. In northeast India, upper-air cyclonic conditions over Sikkim and east Bangladesh are likely to bring heavy rainfall to Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the weekend.    End
