MUMBAI – The Ministry of Coal launched the 16th round of commercial coal mine auctions on Thursday, offering 25 blocks across nine states. The auction includes 21 fully explored and four partially explored mines across Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, and West Bengal, the ministry said in a press release.
The blocks are open to experienced mining companies, new entrants, and technology-driven enterprises under the liberal commercial coal mining framework, which provides no end-use restrictions, 100% foreign direct investment through the automatic route, and low upfront payments adjustable against future revenue share, the release said.
The ministry also executed coal mine development and production agreements for six mines auctioned in earlier rounds. The agreements were executed for Tara (Revised), Margo West, Margo East, Mandla South, Dongeri Tal-II and Dip Side of Prakasam Khani Open Cast, the ministry said. Those who signed the agreements include CG Syn-Gas & Chemicals Ltd., Jharkhand Exploration & Mining Corp. Ltd., Qube Commercial Pvt. Ltd., Gallant Ispat Ltd. and Singareni Collieries Ltd., the ministry said.
The six mines have combined geological reserves of around 1.50 billion tonnes and a peak rated capacity of 11.62 million tonnes per year. Once operational, the mines are expected to generate annual revenue of around INR 19.84 billion, attract capital investment of nearly INR 17.43 billion and create around 15,700 jobs.
A total of 147 coal mines have been auctioned under the commercial coal mining programme since its launch in 2020. The ministry said these mines are expected to generate annual revenue of over INR 475 billion and attract more than INR 550 billion in capital investment. End
