NEW DELHI – The commerce ministry has sought a five-year extension for its flagship export promotion scheme, Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products, a commerce ministry official said Wednesday. The scheme ends on Sept. 30.

Under the scheme, launched in 2021, the government reimburses exporters for duties and taxes paid on imported inputs. In May 2025, the government also expanded the scheme's benefits to exporters from special economic zones and export-oriented units.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is in talks with the Department of Expenditure on the issue, the official said. The ministry has also asked the finance ministry for INR 230 billion for the scheme in 2026-27 (Apr-Mar), the official added. "We are already in discussion with the expenditure department," the official said. "I am sure the department is examining it, and we will ensure there will be predictability to it."

In the Budget for FY26, the government allocated INR 182.32 billion for the scheme. The Budget allocation for the scheme is INR 100 billion for FY27. End
