MUMBAI – An upper-air cyclonic circulation currently lies over north Thailand. It is likely to move towards the north Andaman Sea, and under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region, the India Meteorological Department said. The weather system is expected to gradually intensify and move west-northwestwards towards the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts over the subsequent 3–4 days.
A trough runs from the northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha. This weather system, along with the formation of the low pressure area, is likely to trigger heavy rainfall over several parts of east India till Tuesday. Very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Friday, the weather department said.
Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over central Assam, heavy showers are forecast over multiple parts of northeast India till Saturday, the department said. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected over parts of Assam and Meghalaya till Sunday, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Friday.
In central India, heavy showers are likely over parts of Chhattisgarh from Sunday to Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh till Tuesday, and in Vidarbha on Tuesday, and Chhattisgarh from Saturday to Tuesday, the bureau said.
A trough runs from north interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over south coastal Andhra Pradesh. These weather systems are expected to trigger heavy rainfall over multiple parts of south peninsular India till Tuesday, the weather department said. Strong surface winds are forecast over parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka till Sunday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also likely over most parts of south India till Sunday, the department said.
The low-pressure area which lay over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Kutch Tuesday moved over Saurashtra and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea Wednesday. As such, the intensity and spread of rainfall have declined over west India. Light to moderate showers are seen over most parts of the region till Tuesday. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely over parts of Gujarat till Friday.
In northwest India, only light to moderate rainfall is likely over many parts of the region in the next few days, the weather bureau said. Conditions are becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from some parts of west Rajasthan around Saturday, the bureau said. End
