NEW DELHI – NPCI International Payments Ltd. has entered into an agreement with Uzbekistan's national payment system, National Interbank Processing Centre JSC, for instant merchant payments in Uzbekistan, a government release said. "The partnership enables Indian travellers to scan Uzbekistan's national interoperable Quick Response code UZQR using their familiar Unified Payments Interface-enabled applications to make instant merchant payments across the country," it said.

The implementation will be after obtaining formal approval from financial regulators, including the Reserve Bank of India and the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, which designated HUMO as National Interbank Processing Centre's authorised partner for cross-border merchant acceptance. Indian travellers can already make payments through Unified Payments Interface in Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Greece.

Cross-border payments through Unified Payments Interface began in the financial year 2021-22 (Apr-Mar) when Singapore linked its fast payment system, PayNow, with it.  End
