NEW DELHI – The National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development signed a memorandum of understanding Thursday to collaborate and facilitate joint financing in rural infrastructure projects. These will include public-private partnership projects and those that strengthen agricultural value chains, including water and sanitation, irrigation and storage facilities, and rural roads and bridges.
The two quasi-government lenders will use co-lending and consortium-lending structures for long-term financing, according to a release. NABARD's rural presence will better leverage the infrastructure lender's financing capabilities, it said.
"This collaboration is a significant step towards strengthening rural infrastructure by aligning our infrastructure financing capabilities with NABARD's deep understanding of rural development needs," NaBFID Managing Director G. Rajkiran Rai said. "Our objective is to facilitate a greater flow of patient capital into rural infrastructure sectors that are vital for economic growth and inclusive social development." End
