MUMBAI – Yields on corporate bonds moved in a very narrow band and ended broadly unchanged Friday due to a lack of any significant cues, and as market participants avoided placing large bets ahead of the weekend, dealers said. Mutual funds and banks were the active participants, with bonds maturing up to 2029 being actively traded.
"The yields (on corporate bonds) moved 1-2 bps (basis points) during the day. More or less, it was flat," a dealer at a small finance bank said. "All data is out (CPI, WPI). There are no major cues right now."
The yield on three-year bonds issued by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development was 7.35%, up from 7.30–7.33% Thursday, while the indicative yield on NABARD's five-year bonds was 7.38% against 7.37-7.40% Thursday. The indicative yield on NABARD's 10-year bond was 7.50–52%. The yield on the 10-year benchmark 6.94%, 2036 Indian government bond settled at 6.7578% Friday, slightly down from 6.7582% Thursday.

Pension funds, insurance companies and the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation are expected to have participated in the NaBFID auction. The issuance had a base size of INR 10 billion and a greenshoe option of INR 20 billion. The company received bids aggregating to INR 82.91 billion in the coupon range of 7.30–7.72%, according to the bid book accessed by Informist.
In the secondary market, deals worth INR 90.03 billion were recorded on the National Stock Exchange and BSE combined, marginally down from INR 97.16 billion Thursday. Papers issued by NABARD, Piramal Finance, REC, and Adani Airport Holdings were traded actively.
On Monday, primary market activity is expected to almost halve from Friday, with scheduled bond issuances worth INR 29 billion. Bajaj Finance plans to tap the market to raise up to INR 20 billion by reissuing its 7.79%, July 2036 bonds, dealers said. Aditya Birla Housing Finance plans to raise up to INR 5 billion through the issuance of 10-year bonds, while Nuvama Wealth Finance will seek to raise up to INR 2 billion through the issuance of bonds maturing in December 2028. Prisma Global will seek bids for up to INR 2 billion through the issuance of two-year bonds.
Traders expect yields on corporate bonds to remain broadly steady Monday, barring developments that could trigger a sharp change in crude oil prices or yields on Indian government bonds.
