NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves jumped $6.12 billion to a 10-week high of $682.35 billion as of Jul. 24, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday showed. This was the fourth consecutive week of a rise in the reserves, supported by an increase in foreign currency assets and the value of gold reserves held by the central bank.

The rupee depreciated 0.3% against the dollar in the week ended Jul. 24 amid surging crude oil prices in the wake of renewed war in West Asia. However, a further fall in the domestic currency was limited with the central bank selling the dollars during the week.

Foreign currency assets grew $4.87 billion from a week ago to $555.93 billion as of Jul. 24. The value of the central bank's gold holdings rose by $1.31 billion on week to $103.06 billion.

Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of the appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen held by the central bank.  End
