MUMBAI – Bajaj Holdings & Investment Ltd.'s consolidated net profit for the June quarter fell sharply on year as growth in expenses outpaced the growth in income. A healthy rise in the total income prevented the bottom line from falling further.

 

The company posted a consolidated net profit of INR 27.06 billion, down over 22% on year. However, the bottom line rose over 5% on quarter. Revenue from operations rose over 21% on year to INR 3.94 billion. The company's revenue for the year-ago quarter was INR 3.25 billion. Sequentially, the revenue rose more than 551%. The company's total income for the reporting quarter was INR 4.19 billion, up over 24% on year.

 

Total expenses rose nearly 30% on year to INR 635.5 million. The sharp rise in expenses was led by other expenses, which rose to INR 433 million, up from INR 297.9 million in the year-ago quarter. Sequentially, the total expenses grew nearly 41%.

 

The company's total tax expense fell nearly 97% on year to INR 63.8 million. Of this, the current tax expense fell to INR 53.4 million from INR 1.90 billion a year ago while deferred tax fell to INR 10.4 million from INR 188.6 million in the year-ago period. In the March quarter, the company had got a tax reversal of INR 2.84 billion.

 

Bajaj Holdings & Investment Ltd. operates essentially as a holding company with investments in the Bajaj group of companies. It earns revenue primarily by way of dividend from investments held in group companies. Friday, shares of the company ended at INR 11,343 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up 3.4% from Thursday. The company announced its financial results for the June quarter after market hours.  End
