--RBL Bank gets 'Baa2' rating from Moody's; outlook stable
MUMBAI – Moody's Ratings assigned a first-time "Baa2" issuer rating to RBL Bank Ltd. with a "stable" outlook, according to an exchange filing Friday. The "stable" outlook shows the agency expects the bank's credit profile will be broadly stable over the next 12-18 months.
The rating agency expects the bank's expansion and recent capital infusion to lead to a 20% rise in loan growth over the next two-three years. However, this expansion is likely to create a risky environment as the bank's funding profile is stilted by its higher operating costs and investments in business transformation and franchise development, the agency said.
"We could upgrade RBL's ratings if ENBD's (Emirates NBD Bank) BCA (baseline credit assessment) is upgraded by more than one notch," Moody's said. The baseline credit assessment upgrade will result in an improved return on tangible assets improving above 1.2% on a sustained basis, an improvement in underwriting, and its tangible common equity to risk weighted assets ratio staying above 20%.
The bank's ratings face a downgrade risk if it fails to deliver minimum growth of 15% in its tangible common equity to risk weighted assets ratio or fails to meet the requirements of high profitability, according to the release.
The bank reported a net profit of INR 2.54 billion on a total income of INR 48 billion for the June quarter. At 1126 IST, shares RBL Bank were trading 0.5% lower at INR 376.40 on the National Stock exchange. End
