MUMBAI – Bank of India will offer a leverage of up to nine times on the foreign currency non-resident (bank) deposits, the state-owned bank's management told analysts at a post-earnings conference call Friday. The lender aims to raise around $1.2 billion through the FCNR(B) deposits by Sept. 30 and has so far garnered more than $200 million. The deposits are coming from across the globe, the management said, including the US, the UK, Canada, Singapore and Japan.
The bank is focused on improving its deposit mix and supporting credit demand, the management said. The state-owned bank aims to grow its mid-corporate as well as international books. "... we are also growing our co-lending, pool purchase, and supply chain financing. And also our trades book," the management said.
Around 32% of the lender's international loan book is trade finance, the management said, pointing out that the margins there are very low. "We are trying to now replace this trade finance book with Indian corporates and domestic corporates," the management said.
Stress due to the conflict in West Asia does not seem to reflect in the special mention accounts, the bank said. The lender's overall special mention account fell by INR 29.24 billion on year to INR 40.97 billion, with the SMA ratio declining from 1.08% to 0.52%.
The bank maintained a guidance of 2.55-2.60% on global net interest margin for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar). For the June quarter, its net interest margin was 2.52%, down from 2.58% in the March quarter.
Management said it is seeing a lot of traction in fixed deposits up to INR 250 million. The bank aims to add 300,000 credit cards by FY27.
The bank has been taking bulk deposits to support credit growth. "So, in order to do that, obviously, this percentage of CASA (current account savings account) and the retail term deposit percentage has come down," the management said, explaining the fall in current account savings account and retail term deposit percentages. The lender's CASA percentage for the June quarter was 36.68%, down from 37.64% a quarter ago. The retail term deposits percentage fell to 42.00% from 44.14% a quarter ago.
Friday, Bank of India's shares ended at INR 142.62 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.3% from the previous close. The lender announced its results for the June quarter after market hours. End
