Govt reconstitutes National Statistical Commission; Chattopadhyay to chair

NEW DELHI – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has reconstituted the National Statistical Commission with the appointment of a new chairperson and three members. The committee has appointed Saibal Chattopadhyay, former Director of the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata, as the chairperson of the commission.
Chattopadhyay will replace Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar, who has been the chairman since 2022. The National Statistical Commission is the nodal body for all core national statistical activities.
The government has appointed Shubhabrata Das, Satyendra Bahadur Singh, and Madhavan Mukund as members of the commission, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said in a release. The new members replace A Ganesh Kumar, Debasis Kundu, Mukesh Mohania, and Asit Kumar Sadhu.
Among the new members, Das is a professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, while Singh is a retired Indian Statistical Service officer from the 1987 batch. Mukund is the director at Chennai Mathematical Institute. End
