India receives 46% below normal rainfall at 3.1 mm on Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 3.1 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 46% below the normal of 5.7 millimetres, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. During Jun. 1–14, the country recorded 40.2 millimetres of rain, 28% below the normal of 56.1 millimetres.
Rainfall on Sunday was deficient in all four homogenous regions in the country. In central India, it was 78% below normal at 1.3 millimetres, while in northwest India, it was 18% below normal at 1.6 millimetres. Though the southwest monsoon current has covered most of south India and all of northeast India, rainfall remains deficient in both regions. Rainfall in south peninsula India was 20% below normal at 5.3 millimetres, and in east and northeast India, it was 39% below normal at 6.9 millimetres.
In the 36 subdivisions of the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 16, "deficient" in 11, "excess" in four, "normal" in two, and "large excess" in one. Two subdivisions did not record any rainfall on Sunday, according to data from the weather department. End
