MUMBAI – Artificial Intelligence safety and research company Anthropic has disabled its AI models Fable 5 and Mythos 5, following the US government's export control order on these models, the company said Friday in a statement published on its website. The company suspended access to the models for all foreign nationals on the government's directive, as it raised security concerns.

"The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance," Anthropic said in the statement. However, access to all other Anthropic models will not be affected, the company clarified.

According to the company, the government believes it has become aware of a method of bypassing, or "jailbreaking" Fable 5. The US government has only given verbal evidence to the company of a potential narrow and non-universal jailbreak on these models till date, according to the company statement. The company did not receive a disclosure of a concerning non-universal potential jailbreak, which led to any harmful consequence.

"The potential jailbreaks that have been disclosed to us are either entirely benign responses or are minor findings that provide no Mythos-specific uplift," the company said.

"Our understanding is that one potential jailbreak was shared with the government. We have reviewed a report that we believe is the basis of the government's directive and validated that the level of capability displayed there is widely available from other models (including OpenAI's GPT-5.5), and is used every day by the defenders who keep systems safe," Anthropic said.

However, the company disagrees with the recall of a commercial model deployed to hundreds of millions of people, on finding a narrow potential jailbreak. This is believed to essentially halt all new model deployments if this standard was applied across the industry, the company said.  End
