Report from FSSAI-accredited lab shows no infestation in Maggi - Nestle India

KOLKATA – Nestle India Ltd. Friday said it has completed its own quality analysis on batch and market samples of Maggi instant noodles for a comprehensive investigation in a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India-accredited laboratory and did not find any kind of infestation as alleged. Earlier, it was reported that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India issued a notice to the company over an alleged complaint involving the detection of insect or larvae in a Maggi packet.

 

In a filing with the bourses, Nestle India said a detailed representation, supported by all relevant facts, quality records from batch and market samples, test reports, has already been submitted to the competent authorities.

 

Nestle India said the company came to know about the allegation from a concern raised by an unverified account holder on a social media platform and the company, as part of standard procedure, sought for complaint sample for assessment multiple times. However, the account holder did not respond to the same. In the interim, Nestle India undertook testing of the sample via the aforesaid laboratory.

 

Meanwhile, shares of Nestle India fell sharply by as much as 3.7% intraday after the agency Asian News International reported that the FSSAI had sent the company a notice over food quality issues. The food safety authority sought details about action taken by the company, including vendor details and internal quality check logs for the batch in question, according to the report. It also asked the company to mention the steps taken to remove contaminated products from its supply chain.

 

For the March quarter, Nestle India's revenue increased 23% on year to INR 67.48 billion, and the net profit increased around 26% to INR 11.14 billion.  Friday, Nestle India shares closed 3.3% lower at INR 1,375.70 on the NSE. Volumes surged after the news about the notice with 2.4 million shares changing hands, against 1.5 million Thursday.  End
