MUMBAI – Ministry of Finance late Thursday exempted customs duty on specified nuclear power generation equipment imported between Apr. 1, 2019 and Jan. 31, according to a gazette notification. This will shield importers from any tax demands on such shipments during the period, the notification said.
The notification clarified that any customs duty, if any, payable on imports of the specified goods during the period would not be required to be paid. In March, Union Minister Jitendra Singh had said that the imports of goods required for nuclear power projects will be duty free, which will bring down the project cost and the per- unit cost of electricity generated, according to a press release by Press Information Bureau.
