NEW DELHI – The Indian National Congress Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wondering why the prime minister's so-called "friends" were behaving like "enemies of India". The principal opposition party's jibe came after three Indian sailors died following a strike on their ship by US forces near Oman on Wednesday.

"Why do 'friends' of Modi behave like enemies of India?", Congress Spokesperson Pawan Khera wrote on X, while sharing screenshots of US President Donald Trump congratulating Modi on becoming "India's longest serving prime minister", and news of a US missile strike on oil tanker Settebello, in which three Indian sailors lost their lives.

"Congratulations to my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on becoming India's longest-serving Prime Minister," Trump had posted on Truth Social.

The Palau-flagged oil tanker MT Settebello, with 24 Indian sailors onboard, which was struck on Wednesday near Oman, was the second ship manned by Indian sailors that came under US fire in the region within a week. On Monday, US forces had hit oil tanker Marivex near Oman. All 24 Indian crew members were safely rescued by the Oman Navy.  End
