MUMBAI – Under the influence of several weather systems, heightened weather activity is likely to persist over most parts of northwest India till Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Hailstorms are expected over several parts of the region, including Delhi, till Thursday, while thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 60–70 kilometres per hour and gusting to 80 km per hour are also likely over these regions till Saturday, the weather department said.
A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over multiple parts of northwest India till Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Dust storms are expected over Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, over west Rajasthan from Thursday to Saturday, and over east Rajasthan on Thursday and Friday, the bureau said.
The southwest monsoon trough remains in the same position as it was on Tuesday, the weather department said. Conditions are favourable for further movement of the trough over more parts of the Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, and the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu in the next three to four days, it said.
With most of south India covered by the monsoon trough, heavy rainfall is likely to continue over the region till Sunday, the weather department said. Very heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of Kerala on Thursday and Friday and over parts of Karnataka on Friday, the department said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to persist over most parts of south India till Tuesday.
The eastern branch of the southwest monsoon has covered northeast India entirely. This has triggered heavy rainfall over the region, which is likely to continue till Tuesday, the weather department said. Very heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of Arunachal Pradesh from Thursday to Saturday and over Assam and Meghalaya till Sunday.
In east India, very heavy rainfall is likely over some parts till Thursday, while heavy showers are expected to continue over most parts of the region till Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over the region till Tuesay, the bureau said.
Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Konkan and Goa till Thursday, and thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over most parts of west India till Friday, the weather department said. In central India, thundersqualls are likely to prevail over most parts till Saturday and thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over the same regions till Sunday, the department said.
Heatwave conditions are likely to continue over most parts of northwest India till Thursday, the weather bureau said. Hot and humid weather conditions are expected over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, and Andhra Pradesh till Thursday, the bureau said. End
