NEW DELHI – The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs Wednesday approved two central government infrastructure projects in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, with a total outlay of INR 25.34 billion. As part of these projects, the government will construct a central government office complex and a central government residential complex.

With this, the government aims to alleviate the financial burden on central government employees and enable staff to reside in proximity to their workplaces, according to a release.

The government gave its go-ahead for the development of a central government general pool office accommodation at a cost of INR 12.99 billion. Currently, the central government offices and offices of public sector units are operating from Vijayawada and Guntur. With the construction of this new complex, the government plans to shift all these offices under one roof, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said at a media briefing.

The Union Cabinet has also approved the construction of a central government pool residential accommodation at a cost of INR 12.35 billion in the city. "It is estimated to create approximately 7.00 lakh (700,000) man-days of employment per annum during the construction phase, followed by the sustained generation of around 50,000 man-days of employment per annum during the operational phase," the government said in the release.  End
