--Cabinet OKs INR 21.69 bln for extension of Ahmedabad metro 

 

NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved INR 21.69 billion for the extension of the Ahmedabad metro, to prepare the state to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The metro extension – Phase 2A – will start from Koteshwar Road to Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport, according to the government. 

 

The project will be completed in four years and will increase the total metro network in the state to 78 kilometres. The project is expected to generate employment for around 2,000 persons during the peak construction phase, while about 500 personnel will be engaged during the operation and maintenance of the system, the government said. 

 

The corridor will help enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion.  End
