India received 37% below normal rainfall at 2.6 mm Tuesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 2.6 millimetres rainfall on Tuesday, 37% below the normal of 4.1 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. From Jun. 1–9, the country received 23.7 millimetres of precipitation, 24% below normal for the period.

 

Of the four homogenous regions in the country, south peninsula India continued to be the only region that recorded above-normal showers. Rainfall in the region was 13% above normal at 4.9 millimetres. The Southwest monsoon trough covered most parts of south peninsula India as of Tuesday, triggering widespread moderate to heavy rainfall across the region.

 

In northwest India, rainfall was 91% below normal at 0.2 millimetres, while in central India it was 49% below normal at 1.7 millimetres, the data showed. East and northeast India recorded 6.3 millimetres of showers, 31% below the normal of 9.1 millimetres.

 

In the 36 sub-divisions across the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 12, "deficient" in 10, "normal" in five, "excess" in two, and "large excess" in one. Six sub-divisions did not record any rainfall on Tuesday, according to the data.  End
