India received 16% below normal rainfall at 3.5 mm Monday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 3.5 millimetres of rainfall on Monday, which is 16% below the normal of 4.1 millimetres, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. From Jun. 1-8, the country recorded 21.3 millimetres of precipitation, 22% below normal for the period, the data showed.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, only south peninsula India recorded above normal showers, while the other three received below-normal rainfall. Rainfall in south peninsula India was 40% above normal at 6.9 millimetres, data showed. Rainfall in north interior Karnataka was a whopping 378% above normal at 14.8 millimetres. 

 

In northwest India, rainfall was 67% below normal at 0.6 millimetres, and in central India, it was 51% below normal at 1.7 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 8.5 millimetres, 7% below normal.

 

In the 36 divisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 14, "normal" in seven, "deficient" in five, "large excess" in four, and "excess" in three, the data showed. Three subdivisions in the country did not receive any rainfall on Monday.  End
