India receives 28% above normal rainfall at 4.4 mm Friday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 4.4 millimetres of rainfall Friday, 28?ove the normal of 3.4 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. From Jun. 1-5, the country received 12.8 millimetres of rainfall, 14% below the normal weighted average of 14.9 millimetres for the period, the data showed.
Rainfall over east and northeast India was normal at 8.3% and that over central India was 24?low normal at 1.8 millimetres. Northwest India recorded large excess showers Friday at 4.2 millimetres, which was a whopping 222?ove the normal. In southern India, rainfall was 36% above normal at 5.8 millimetres.
Of the 36 sub-divisions, rainfall on Friday was "large deficient" in eight, "deficient" in six, "large excess" in 13, "normal" in six, and "excess" in two sub-divisions. One sub-division did not record any rainfall, the data showed. End
