MUMBAI – Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. Friday said it will set up a biogas plant at its facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana, where it will produce 10 tonnes of biogas per day. Additionally, it has expanded the capacity of its biogas plant at Manesar, also in Haryana, to 0.7 tonnes per day from 0.2 tonnes per day previously. The company will invest INR 1.5 billion in these two projects, it said in a press release.

The new biogas facility in Kharkhoda will be commissioned in the financial year 2026-27 (Apr-Mar). "At full capacity, it will help in mitigating 9,490 tonnes of CO2 (carbon dioxide) and will serve approximately 20% of the total gas requirement at the facility," the company said. Its biogas plant in Manesar uses food waste, Napier grass, and paddy straw as feedstock, with a provision to boost output with cattle dung.

The company uses this biogas in the heating process in its paint shop and in its canteen operations. In all, Maruti Suzuki will invest INR 9.25 billion towards green energy initiatives by FY31.

For the March quarter, Maruti Suzuki reported a net profit of INR 35.91 billion on revenue of INR 524.49 billion. At 1314 IST, its shares were at INR 13,106 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.3% from Thursday.  End
