Govt appoints Axis Bank's Neelkanth Mishra as World Bank (India) ED

NEW DELHI - The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet Thursday appointed Axis Bank Chief Economist Neelkanth Mishra as the executive director (India) of the World Bank for three years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, according to a notification.

 

Mishra will replace Parameswaran Iyer, who also held additional charge of ED at the International Monetary Fund briefly last year. The Cabinet committe also approved an extension in Iyer's tenure beyond Jun. 19, until Mishra formally takes over the position at the World Bank headquarters in the US.

 

Mishra is also the head of global research at Axis Capital. Before his stint with Axis Group, Mishra was the managing director of Credit Suisse for two decades starting 2003. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology.  End
